EVENT CANCELLATION

In the event that the Event course is, in the opinion of the event organisers, unsafe (e.g. heavy rain, high winds, bushfires, "acts of god" etc), or at the direction of the QFRS, National Parks, Gold Coast City Council, Department of Health or in accordance with any Queensland Government directives, or any other relevant authority, organisers may be required to postpone or cancel the event.

Every attempt will be made to reschedule. For Triple Crown awards the ages shall be your age on the day of the final event in the Series; September 2, awards at the individual events shall be awarded as age on the day.

  • 34-41 M&F

  • 42-47 M&F

CUT OFF TIMES

There are no course cut-offs for any event, however it is strongly recommended that if you wish to walk the majority of the ‘In the Raw’ Trail Run course that you choose to enter the 15km event. While there is no official cut-off, we reserve the right to shorten the route or withdraw runners from either event if heat, weather or an overly onerous task is being asked of our volunteers. Please consider others when choosing your event.

In 2024 we will be introducing a ‘Walkers Wave’ which will leave ahead of the official race start; competitors must be self-sufficient, be carrying a course map (electronically is fine) and WILL NOT be eligible for any category prizes.

PARTICIPANT EXPECTATIONS

We expect that participants of the ‘In the Raw’ Trail Run events will be mindful of the fact that we are guests of ‘Raw Challenge Gold Coast, Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service, Gold Coast City Council and the Numinbah Valley community and we particularly note the following:

  • Participants found littering or vandalising any section of the course, either within the ‘Raw Challenge’ property or on the course, may be disqualified from the event.

  • Participants are to remain on the marked courses at all times. Do not trespass on neighbouring properties or into the National Park or Conservation Area.

  • Participants and spectators must drive to and from the event safely and be considerate of where they park. The event has it’s own off-road parking area. Please utilise this facility and refrain from parking on the roadside. We STRONGLY encourage competitors to car pool to reduce the stress on the immediate environment and planet earth as well :-)

  • Please be considerate of residents of Numinbah Valley and keep noise at a minimum when arriving at and leaving the event.

PARTICIPANT SAFETY

We have taken considerable care in event planning to ensure that the events are safe and enjoyable. There are a few key points that you need to be aware of:

  • Any vehicular traffic on course will be there for the benefit of competitor safety or in case of emergency, please allow them passage.

  • Marshals will be placed along the run courses, in addition to signage, to direct runners. Please ensure that you listen to and follow marshal directions.

COMPULSORY GEAR

All runners in the events must have a water bottle or hydration vest with capacity for 500mL of fluids. This must be carried with you for the duration of the run. The event is cupless so please bring your own drinking vessel (and no; cupped hands DO NOT count)!

FIRST AID

In the unlikely event of an emergency First Aid will be located at the start/finish area. There will be first aid access on course, however given the nature of the course please be aware that there may be a delay in first aid arriving to assist you.

RACE TIMING

The event will be timed and official results will be available courtesy of Sports Event Services. This years event will feature live timing so you can access your results immediately following the event - please note results may vary as competitors who started at different times, filter in and affect positioning!

Wild Earth ‘In the Raw’ Trail Run (Short & Long Course)

COURSE MARKING

‘In the Raw’ Trail Race will be quite different to a road running event in that you will be required to keep an eye out for course markings as follows:

  • The course will be marked with a combination of orange landscaping flags, orange flagging tape and directional arrows.

  • The flags and signs will be placed immediately before and again following a track junction to confirm you are on the correct track. Markings on sections where there are no route options or intersections will be spread out and irregular. Typically we will have “X” signs to ensure you don’t go the wrong way!

  • Unless otherwise marked or directed, participants should follow the most major track at all intersections. If there is no marking at a minor track junction then continue along the major track.

  • Runners should keep to the left-most-side of all trails. There are elements of one and two-way flow and we remind you that the course is not closed to other Park users (including horse riders).

  • Please follow all course markers, do not deviate from the course. Please obey the instructions of the race officials at all times.

  • In additional to directional markers we will have marshals and kilometre markers to let you know how much pain you have left!

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS - 2024 COURSES

25km In the Raw Trail Run Course for 2024 (conditions permitting)

THE START - 1.5km on the 'Raw Challenge' property; twists and turns, lumps and bumps - a little old school cross-country style running. Turn RIGHT out the 'back gate' and link through to Chester's Road.

THE LOOP - turn RIGHT for a steady climb of 900m, through the gate and dive into the valley for a descent of 900m. Turn LEFT onto Waterfall Trail; nice flowy trail for 4km with seven creek crossings (it's likely at this time of year that your feet will get wet). Turn LEFT again and you'll climb up...and up.... and up. Push yourself if you dare but keep plenty in the tank - you’re only one-third of the way through your run! Surface is a bit rubbly and loose. A few plateaus do allow you to open up in sections. Reach the peak and its a sharp descent on a good surface back down to Chesters Road. Turn LEFT and head back towards Raw Challenge.

THE OUT & BACKS - you’ll continue up Chesters Road for a second, but this time its upwards and onwards into the Conservation Area. You’ll finally conquer the climb, only to hurtle down the other side to another section of Waterfall Creek. This is the first of two out and back sections - which means you now have to climb back up!!

You’ll make a sharp left at the fork (there will be an aid station here that you passed earlier) for a little heart shaped loop. Yes it’s more climbing, but once you make the turn at the top, you will begin the rewarding 3km downhill back to the Raw Challenge property. When you get back to Raw Challenge, there’s more 2.5km of fun still in store, with some tricky single track, some little pinches but thankfully, a nice grassy downhill descent to the finish!

JUNIOR EVENTS & ENTICER EVENTS/FLIRT WITH DIRT ROUND 3

The Junior and Enticer events at the 2024 Wild Earth ‘In the Raw’ will double as Round 3 of the Wild Earth ‘Flirt with Dirt’ Series.

Courses are available here and are largely be held within the Raw Challenge property, with the longer Flirt races showing off some of the ‘In the Raw’ courses also! Marshals and signage will be positioned along the length of the course to assist runners with directions, with all Flirt events being staged completely off-road run!

There will be minimal to no on-course aid station for the shorter races, with water available in the race precinct before and after the events. The longer Flirt events will utilise the ‘In the Raw’ aid stations.
